DESCRIPTION
The Westsail 32 is one of the enduring bluewater cruising designs of the twentieth century. Designed by William Crealock with influence from W. Atkin’s pilot cutter tradition and built by Westsail Corporation in Costa Mesa, California, approximately 900 were produced between 1970 and 1979. Heavy displacement, a full encapsulated keel, a double-ended hull, and a cutter rig combine to produce a vessel with exceptional seakeeping ability, load-carrying capacity, and structural reserves well beyond most production sailboats of any era. The type has a well-documented bluewater record spanning thousands of ocean passages and numerous circumnavigations.
Arctic Loon, hull #77, has been progressively upgraded through two owner generations since being relaunched following a comprehensive refit ashore. The result is a vessel that combines the proven offshore architecture of a Westsail with critical modern systems: a 2021 Beta Marine diesel at 702 hours, a Victron-based electrical system installed 2022, a Garmin electronics suite installed 2024, a full offshore sail wardrobe including storm canvas, a Cape Horn windvane, and well-maintained standing and running rigging renewed 2017-2019.
A pre-purchase survey completed June 2026 before Yacht Sales West accepted the vessel in trade assessed Arctic Loon in above-average condition.
