X-Wing is a 1974 Islander 34 that spent the last decade doing what most boats only dream about - crossing the Pacific twice, circumnavigating Australia, and completing a one-of-a-kind voyage to her owner's birth antipode (the exact opposite point on Earth). That expedition, the FarOtherSide project, made her one of the most well-documented small sailboats on the internet, with hundreds of videos on Instagram and TikTok (@farotherside).

She's not a marina queen. She's a proven bluewater cruiser in a compact, manageable package - and she's been maintained like one. The current owner has kept a meticulous engine log from hour zero, replaced nearly every system that matters, and upgraded her for serious offshore work. She's now back in BC, in good condition, and ready to go.

The owner has his eye on a bigger boat and bigger plans. X-Wing needs to be passed along to someone who'll use her.

This one owner Bavaria Vision 42 is lightly used and in excellent condition.

“Come Abroad” features the popular 2 cabins, 1 head layout, with the upgraded Teak interior and Ocean Line flooring. The large owner's cabin forward features an island queen bed allowing easy access from both sides. The saloon is very bright due to an abundance of natural light flooding in through large, tempered glass skylights and opening hatches. The head compartment is huge, featuring a separate shower stall. Aft of the shower, through a full-size door, there is a walk-in storage area with access from the cockpit. Best sailing characteristics meet maximum comfort

The BAVARIA C38 combines perfect sailing characteristics, easy handling and maximum use of the interior space. Distinctive design features, such as the BAVARIA V-bow and Chines at the stern, guarantee safe and fast sailing characteristics and an incredible amount of space below deck. In the owner’s cabin in the bow, the double bed measures a sensational 1.73 x 2 metres. The berths in the stern cabins measure 1.50 x 2 metres, which must also be close to a record for this size of boat.

More volume and more performance thanks to chines and V-shaped bow BAVARIA Chines and BAVARIA V-shaped bow: These striking hull design characteristics not only give the BAVARIA C38 more space below deck, they also provide unusual good sailing performance. The BAVARIA Chines ensure more stability, a longer waterline and therefore better performance and a more direct feeling when steering. But the prominent angle at the stern of the BAVARIA C38 has another advantage. It yields more space for the stern cabin, providing more comfort.

More space for the joy of sailing When designing the deck layout, the BAVARIA YACHTS product management team concentrated their efforts on the essential characteristics in order to make space for an important aspect: the joy of sailing. The bow area and side deck provide an unusually large amount of space for a sailing yacht of this size. The cockpit, with its ergonomically formed L-shaped seating bench, is also a space winner. That guarantees you a comfortable, fatigue-free seating position, whether you’re sailing close to the wind or enjoying a lavish lunch at the large cockpit table. BAVARIA C38 Extra speed thanks to more sail area. When developing the rigging and sail plan, the development team from BAVARIA YACHTS in collaboration with Cossutti Yacht Design focussed on two aspects in particular: easy handling and above-average performance. 46 square metres of sail area for the mainsail and 35 square metres for the genoa sail provide the BAVARIA C38 with an extra portion of power from the wind. While sailing with the wind abeam or running before the wind, a Code 0 sail (70 square metres) and a gennaker (130 square metres) ensure maximum speed. The self-tacking jib means the easiest of handling when tacking. What’s more, it’s included in the standard version of the BAVARIA C38. In order to be able to perfectly trim the two-spreader mast on all courses, a backstay and backstay tensioner are also included in the BAVARIA C38’s basic equipment.

BAVARIA C38 A new sense of space The foredeck and side decks provide generous room for a sailing yacht of this size. The innovative hull design also opens up new dimensions below deck. Select from individual cabin layouts ranging from the luxurious 2-cabin version with a spacious bathroom to the comfortable 3-cabin version with two bathrooms. The U-shaped seating area at the starboard side and the portside lounge bench easily cater for eight people during a cosy dinner. As in classic layouts, the L-shaped pantry is located portside. Layout & Accommodations

Deck

The cockpit and Sunbridge are very nicely appointed with ample vinyl cushions. The cockpit and Sunbridge are fully enclosed by canvas and plastic windows supported on 1" S/S framing and fittings. The forward sloping fiberglass radar arch is used on both sides for support of the enclosure.  The enclosure goes all the way to the back to prevent otters from getting into the cockpit.

The cockpit and Sunbridge are divided but do have a level access between the two. Both the cockpit and Sunbridge are nicely appointed with ample seating.   The cockpit has a bench seat across the transom including a bench seat along the hull side.  Forward of the bench seat you have a dual pedestal wooden table with a fold in leaf on both sides. You can remove table and make this area into a sunbed.  This is combined with the L-shape settee on the Sunbridge to form a fore or aft settee arrangement.  The back of the settee can be folded for or aft to select orientation and use.

The Sunbridge has the helm starboard forward with full engine instrumentation, controls and electronics as noted. The helm has a vinyl-covered pedestal Captains chair being fully adjustable.

Aft of the helm station has a small beverage cabinet with a molded sink with pressure water.  The stowage under the counter has the fridge/freezer.

The forward cowling has the Venturi visor with rounded corners and angled side fairing. The upper half of the Venturi is covered with plastic and suede leather canvas which continues with a full enclosure to the angled fiberglass arch.  Aft of the arch is continued with tight suede leather in S/S framing.  After that it has a canvas tonneau cover angled down to the transom.

The forward Sunbridge bulkhead has the companionway with steps down to the tinted and curved door.  The door slides into a pocket in front of helm station.

Interior

The interior woodwork is a dark sipo finish light with burled walnut cabinet doors and teak and holly laminate flooring provides a rich European Yacht finish.

As you come down the 3 solid wood steps into the salon you have to starboard the C shaped dinette. Aft to port is access to the generous aft cabin. Forward of the aft cabin door is the galley to port. Ahead of the salon is the main bulkhead with enclosed head compartment to port. Moving through the bulkhead door you have the forward stateroom. The head is accessed from the main salon and also the forward stateroom. The head and forward stateroom don’t have the teak and holly flooring.

Main cabin

The interior of the vessel is nicely laid out and functional.  It has a vinyl deckhead, teak and holly sole and fabric sliding curtains. The cushions are fabric covered noted in very nice condition. The cabinetry and bulkhead are exotic wood and teak.  Overall the interior was found in very nice condition and with good housekeeping practices.

The layout has the forward stateroom (or “V-berth”) with a large  queen size offset to starboard and against the forward bulkhead.  The berth has full stowage under which include the two batteries dedicated to run the bow thruster including the “Prosport HD8" battery charger.  The stowage also includes a heater an outlet from the Espar cabin heater. The hull sides have lockers secured under the deckhead.  A hanging locker is located starboard aft. The partial aft bulkhead has an en-suite door to the enclosed head on the port side. The head is also accessible from the salon with a hinged door.

The enclosed head has a “Jabsco” manual marine head and a vanity with a round zinc and pressure water.  The tap pulls out to make a shower wand.  The deckhead has a full surround track for the plastic shower curtain.

The salon has the galley counter on the port side with an in-counter 2-burner alcohol/electric stove.  The counter has the round S/S sink with pressure water.  The galley has ample stowage and locker both on the hull side above the counter and below which include the fridge/freezer.

The starboard side of the salon has an U-shaped settee with full stowage under.  The aft settee has an outlet from the Espar heater.  A pedestal table is located in front of the settee with folding leafs.  The table noted minor water damage.

The partial aft salon bulkhead has the center steps to the Sunbridge and a hinged door on the port side to the quarter berth.  The quarter berth has a large queen size berth.  The inside of the quarter berth on the starboard side have two plastic hatches giving access to wiring including the “TruCharge 40” battery charger.

Engine & Mechanical

The engine bay hatch is raised by a double ram with the switch located beside the helm. Once open you will notice the amount of space for a mechanic to access the engines for easy maintenance. Of note is all the wiring is in wire ducting. The fuel tank is located in the forward part of the bay and has a large bolted inspection hatch. You have batteries located to port and starboard. The hotwater tank is located forward to starboard out of the way of the engines yet easy to access if you need to. There is easy access at the aft end of the compartment for reaching fittings under the swim platform.

Bottom

Propulsion is provided by the twin “Volvo Penta" duo-prop stern drives with 3-bladed S/S propellers.  The outboard sides have the “Bennett” [10" x13"] hydraulic trim tabs.

The bow is fitted with an external mounted bow thruster with the “Sideshift”  3-bladed propeller. A rubber guard is fitted on the stem above the thruster to protect the wiring leading it above the waterline.  The helm has a jog stick to operate.

The Catalina 320 was a hit right from the first hull. With her large aft berth and 6’ long V berth she can sleep up to 6 with the salon settees. The midship galley and head provide easy access to the cockpit. The large cockpit has 6’ settees so one can sleep on them but also allows for room around the cockpit table. The Catalina 320 has one of the best galleys on any boat under 36 feet. All in all the Catalina 320 is a great boat for exploring the BC coast.

This 320 started life out in fresh water back east so she is in really nice shape.

New Haven is a very well maintained 1984 Baltic 38 DP. The 38DP has a reputation as one of the great Baltic builds as Doug Peterson was in his prime when he designed her.  Boats of this era are great upwind and make for fast offshore sailors or just sailing anywhere. A well maintained Baltic is worth the money when compared to ones that aren’t. New Haven has had major upgrades for offshore cruising and racing.

From 2020 she has had new rod rigging, full mast inspection, wire backstay, solent stay and forestay, new electronics with originals as backups, new fridge and freezer with separate compressors,  3 solar panels ( with new spare panels) Lithium batteries for house being replaced 7/24. Wiring has been updated for a lot of the systems. Carbon race sails and full cruising sails, autopilot and the list goes on.  If you haven’t sailed this vintage of boat upwind in a chop and pressure you have missed one of life’s great joys. These boats are so well balanced they are a thrill to drive. If you are looking for a high quality, well maintained, capable sailing yacht under 40’ this is a must see. Offshore or local this is truly a wonderful boat to do either or both!

The clever details that BAVARIA YACHTS is known for, both above and below deck, has been further refined in the BAVARIA C42, providing this unusual 12.38m long sailing yacht with the best of the newest innovations in yacht building.

BAVARIA C42 - InteriorA new sense of space

The foredeck and side decks provide generous room for a sailing yacht of this size. The innovative hull design also opens up new dimensions below deck. Select from individual cabin layouts ranging from the luxurious 2-cabin version with a spacious bathroom
to the comfortable 3-cabin version with two bathrooms.

The U-shaped seating area at the starboard side and the portside lounge bench easily cater for eight people during a cosy dinner. As in classic layouts, the L-shaped pantry is located portside.

Thanks to the V-shaped bow and the large side windows, the bow cabin doesn’t simply appear spacious; when it comes to headroom and the space on offer, it’s close to unbeatable.

BAVARIA chines and BAVARIA V-shaped bow: These striking hull design characteristics not only give the BAVARIA C42 more space below deck, they also provide unusual good sailing performance. The BAVARIA chines ensure more stability, a longer waterline and therefore better performance and a more direct feeling when steering. But the prominent angle at the stern of the BAVARIA C42 has another advantage. It yields more space for the stern cabins, providing more comfort.

More space for the joy of sailing

When designing the deck layout, the BAVARIA YACHTS product management team concentrated their efforts on the essential characteristics in order to make space for an important aspect: the joy of sailing. The bow area and side deck provide an unusually large amount of space for a sailing yacht of this size.

The cockpit, with its ergonomically formed L-shaped seating bench, is also a space winner. That guarantees you a comfortable, fatigue-free seating position, whether you’re sailing close to the wind or enjoying a lavish lunch at the large cockpit table.

BAVARIA C42 - Data and OptionsExtra speed thanks to more sail area.

When developing the rigging and sail plan, the development team from BAVARIA YACHTS in collaboration with Cossutti Yacht Design focussed on two aspects in particular: easy handling and above-average performance. 54 square metres of sail area for the mainsail and 47 square metres for the genoa sail provide the BAVARIA C42 with an extra portion of power from the wind.

While sailing with the wind abeam or running before the wind, a Code 0 sail (85 square metres) and a gennaker (140 square metres) ensure maximum speed. The self-tacking jib means the easiest of handling when tacking. What’s more, it’s included in the standard version of the BAVARIA C42. In order to be able to perfectly trim the two-spreader mast on all courses, a backstay and backstay tensioner are also included in the BAVARIA C42’s basic equipment.
