1973 Formosa 51 Ketch
"Solskin" is meticulously maintained to a very high standard.by her current and previous owners. She is ready to take you sailing safely, anywhere you would like to go cruising. She would also be a fantastic live aboard vessel as well.
This Formosa 51' Ketch was completely refurbished and refitted before taking her family cruising to Mexico and back, plus up to Haida Gwaii and the central BC coast numerous times. She is currently in excellent condition and continuously maintained.

CONSTRUCTION
- Heavy displacement, round bilge, constructed of GRP
- Hull is solid hand laid GRP with extra laminates applied at high load areas, 3/4’ thick glass in stress areas
- Decks and cabin trunk are Mahogany/teak frame with plywood skin a GRP top layer.
- Full keel, encapsulated.
- Rudder hung with 3 pintles and gudgeons, rebuilt 2006
- Original teak decks were removed and re-decked with epoxy coating and non-skid paint.
- Top sides have been repainted.
- Solskin has gone through a major refit with extensive work completed in the removal of deck and topsides rot, rebuild of chainplates, new aluminum main and mizzen masts, standing rigging, bowsprit, galley counter and appliances, reconfiguration of aft cabin.
INTERIOR
- General overview: 3 cabins and 2 heads layout, raised deck salon which features the galley and dinette, going forward is the salon then forward again are two cabins and a head. Aft of the deck salon is a large owner’s cabin with ensuite head.
- Cabin interior is finished in beautiful teak joinery with solid trim, cabin sole is teak and holly
- Forward Cabin Layout: Forepeak features bunk beds to port, currently used as a kids cabin, storage to port, access the chain locker
- 2nd Cabin fwd: Pullman double berth to stb, drawers under the bed and outboard of the bed, cabin is bright allowing natural light to flood in through portholes
- Fwd Head: Enter the head from the salon or the second cabin, fresh and bright featuring a stained-glass porthole window
- Separate shower stall with hot water on demand propane heater
- Vacu-flush toilet with 30 gal holding tank
- Large vanity, round basin, storage, mirror all finished with beautiful wood trim
- Salon: Forward of the raised dinette and galley, this cabin is the heart of the vessel which features the signature trademark ornate carved double doors which have been beautifully maintained. Port and starboard are bench settees beautifully upholstered, arm rests cushions of the settee are actually sleeping bags cleverly rolled into casings
- In the corner port side is a floor mounted diesel heater
- Beautifully restored cabinetry outboard of the settees featuring storage in various drawers and lockers.
- Portholes and a large butterfly hatch allow for abundant amount of natural light and ventilation to enter the cabin
- Entering the vessel from an offset companion way to starboard, into the raised deck salon which features the linear galley to starboard, dinette to port, and lower command center (no wheel).
- Raised deck salon (also referred to as the Dog House)
- An exceptionally spacious cabin featuring the Galley, Dinette a lower Command Station (no actual wheel)
- When entering this cabin from the offset to starboard companion way you immediately will notice the Herreshoff style interior that is bright and inviting
- Large side and forward windows with custom curtains, allows for great visibility and an abundance of natural light to enter
- Galley rebuild: Linear counter tops to starboard, all completely rebuilt and designed with new counter tops, re designed drawers, new fridge and freezer, new double sinks.
- The companion way stairs have been cleverly redesigned to hinge up allowing access to the freezer. Excellent use of space compared to the original bulky stairs.
