1998 Gozzard 36E
Built in Canada by Gozzard Yachts, Innisfree is a beautiful, robustly built sailboat with proven blue water capabilities. Her sleek lines and classic styling make her standout in any anchorage, drawing comments wherever she goes.
The Gozzard 36 is designed for a cruising couple. The strong cutter rig and flexible sail plan is easily managed, providing plenty of power in light winds and various options to reduce sail when the breeze gets up. With all halyards, reefing, and furling lines led to the cockpit, shorthanded crews can adjust sails without having to leave the safety of the cockpit.
The innovative interior, with king-sized aft cabin berth, U-shaped galley with dinette, large head with separate shower, full nav station, and open-plan forward salon seems like it belongs on a much larger boat. It’s an interior that feels like a home.
The cockpit is secure and comfortable while underway, and roomy enough to host several neighbours for sundowners. The stainless-steel arch and offshore davits framework (installed in 2021) keep the mainsheet out of the cockpit and enable a full cockpit enclosure. The transom has a fold-down section in the middle, allowing easy access for swimming and dinghy boarding.
Innisfree underwent a major refit in 2021 to prepare her for long-term cruising. Upgrades included repowering with a new Beta 50 engine, all-new standing rigging, diesel hydronic heater, new electronics and communications systems, safety equipment, water maker, Highfield UL260 dinghy, full cockpit enclosure, and stackpack. The electrical systems were completely replaced, adding 400 Ah of lithium batteries, 860W of solar, and a full suite of Victron hardware including 2000W inverter/charger, solar controllers, and Cerbo GX with touchscreen.
Her current owners have sailed Innisfree from the Great Lakes to the Caribbean, and then across to Europe. For those looking for a Hallberg-Rassy, Najad, or similarly well-built, capable, and comfortable bluewater cruiser, Innisfree deserves strong consideration. Superbly-equipped with state-of-the-art systems, Sshe is in excellent condition, and eager to be at sea again!
Currently lying in Sicily, Italy. Canadian-built and registered, Innisfree could be an ideal boat for a Canadian or American looking to cruise the monohull-friendly Med before crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean and traveling onwards to the US or Canada. EU VAT not paid.

Accommodations
Innisfree (hull #81) is one of five boats made with the 36E interior, which is the same layout used in the newer model Gozzard 37s. The interior is beautifully handcrafted in American cherry wood, with off-white Ultraleather upholstery throughout the main cabin (new in 2023). Two opening ceiling hatches, and 10 opening portlights provide plenty of light and air circulation, aided by two large dorades, and cabin fans in the salon, galley, and aft cabin. The hatches, portlights, companionway, and dorades all have built-in bug screens.
Salon
Gozzard’s characteristic open-concept living area makes Innisfree feel like a much larger boat. The forward salon features a V-shaped settee and a low coffee table with built-in storage, creating a comfortable space to stretch out in the evening. When entertaining, the coffee table can be converted into a dining table that seats six (the top is stored behind the starboard settee). Alternatively, the settee seats can be pulled to the centre to form a queen-sized bed (185 x 130cm). For extra privacy, a quick adjustment of panels and doors converts the salon into a private stateroom. When offshore, lee cloths on both settees convert them to sea berths.
Forward of the settee is a large hanging locker with extra storage space that extends under the anchor locker to the bow. The 13gal/50L per hour watermaker has been installed in this location, with the filters accessible at the back of the hanging locker, and the control panel on the port side above the settee. The 12V watermaker can be run from solar power alone, perfect for off-grid living.
There is plenty of storage in the salon, including cabinets and open shelving above the settees on each side (a netting system can be set up to secure this area while offshore), a floor-to-ceiling cupboard with shelves that extend to the hull, and secure cabinets under the settees. There is a wine rack under the port side settee back, and the floor under the coffee table lifts up to provide access to the deep bilge, with plenty of room for tools or other heavy items. On the starboard side is a large cabinet with a built-in Fusion stereo, and two large drawers beneath it.
Galley
The U-shaped galley is well equipped, and enhanced by a dedicated 2-person dinette table. Corian countertops lift up to reveal a gimballed, Force 10 2-burner propane stove and oven, and a deep pantry locker in the corner. There is also a stowable single-burner induction cooktop (AC powered), and a built-in 800W microwave. The sink features a modern faucet with pull-down sprayer (installed 2022), an Acuva UV water purifier with a dedicated drinking water faucet (2021), and a hand pump for either fresh or salt water. Dishes are stored in purpose-built shelving under the counter, and cutlery is neatly tucked away in a drawer under the tabletop. The fridge-freezer combination is on the port side, with the lift-up fridge door creating extra counterspace for food-prep, etc.
- Nova Cool LT 200 (R134) 12V with cold plate (2013). New Danfoss controller in 2025.
- 5cu.ft / 140 liter top loading refrigerator
- 2cu.ft / 57 liter front loading freezer
- Two 24” opening ceiling hatches; Four 5 x 12” and six 7 x 14” opening portlights, all with screens
- Built in screen doors for the companionway
- Custom made, teak-framed tinted plexiglass washboards, with custom-made fabric storage holder
- Caframo Scirocco multi-speed fans in salon, galley, and aft cabin (new 2022)
- Bug screens for all portlights, built-in bug screens for ceiling hatches and companionway
- RGB LED strip accent lighting in salon
- All lightbulbs have been changed to LED bulbs
Nav Station
The dedicated forward-facing nav station seat and desk are across from the galley, with storage beneath the desk, beneath the seat, and a convenient large cupboard beneath the table. The table is large enough for paper charts, but it has also been set up to function as a modern navigation workstation and nerve center for the boat.
In addition to the 120V and 12V distribution panels, the nav station features a dedicated chartplotter, VHF radio, Iridium GO!, Garmin inReach Explorer+ (in mount), cellular WiFi router and cellular range extender. 12V, 120V, and multiple USB outlets can power a laptop or other electronics, and an iPad/tablet can be fixed in a dedicated mount below the weather station. The Victron touchscreen provides quick access to electric system data, tank levels, and environmental sensors.
Data from the boat’s electrical and NMEA2000 networks can be broadcast on to the boat Wifi network - use your favourite apps on a mobile device, or OpenCPN or other software on a computer and access radar, AIS, GPS, wind and other sensor data. Add a mobile network sim card to the Teltonika router, or connect the router to a marina wifi network to connect the boat to the internet, then monitor key systems from the Victron website or enable email alerts for issues (e.g. a bilge pump activation or low battery) when away from the boat.
Aft Cabin
The aft cabin features a king-sized bed (74” x 70” / 188 x 178 cm) that stretches from hull to centreline, behind the companionway stairs. New foam (2023) inside of cozy Ultrasuede covers create a comfortable bed, and a custom-fit layer of vinyl-loop matting provides extra airflow under the mattresses. Two opening portlights and a built-in cabin fan provide plenty of airflow through the room. A fan unit for the hydronic heating and dedicated thermostat keep the cabin comfortable on cooler nights.
There is a hanging locker and cupboards for clothing storage, and a long shelf that runs the length of the bed. Removable panels at the foot of the bed provide access to the rudder post and steering quadrant, autopilots, and diesel heater.
Head
The head is separated into two sections. The dry side features a vanity with corian counter top, recessed sink with hot/cold mixer tap (new in 2023), and several cabinets and drawers for storage. The Raritan toilet is located on the ‘wet’ side of the room, with a dedicated, wall-mounted shower head (with hot and cold water), shower curtain, and a fold-down seat that protects the toilet during showers. The toilet leads to a Y-valve with overboard or holding tank options. The tank is emptied by macerator pump or deck discharge. Ventilation is provided by an opening portlight and solar-powered ceiling fan.
Cockpit
The perfect blend of comfort and safety, the cockpit provides ample seating for 8 people, yet feels safe and contained in even the roughest of seas. The wide cockpit is divided by a large central cockpit pod, a classic Gozzard feature that provides security as well as function. Sit comfortably against the combings, brace your feet on the cockpit pod, or lie down and stretch out on the seat for a sleep under the stars.
Stainless railing surrounds the cockpit (new, 2023). Padeyes have been installed around the cockpit, for clipping in safety harnesses while on passage. The mainsheet has been lifted to the top of a stainless steel arch, removing it from the cockpit and enabling a full Sunbrella enclosure with large Strataglass windows. Clear panels in the connecting panel and zip-out sections on the side panels mean you can sail the boat while the enclosure is sealed up, staying warm and dry in even the heaviest of rainstorms.
A fold-down transom with integrated swim ladder makes for easy boarding to/from the dinghy or water and features a nearby hot and cold freshwater washdown shower.
The hard dodger features half-height glass windows in the lower portion, with custom-made Tuffak (Makrolon) AR window panels to connect it to the fibreglass top. The cockpit pod provides a large storage locker, and has a varnished-teak top, and fold-out side panels to create a very large table. A deep locker extends the full length of the cockpit on the port side. There are dedicated storage locations under the locker lids for winch handles, manual bilge pump handle, and emergency tiller.
Exterior
Innisfree is a robustly built sailboat with proven offshore capabilities. The traditional design incorporates classic elements like a clipper bow and well-proportioned shearline giving it a distinctive look. The Hull and deck are fiberglass with Balsa coring; the core material is removed around through hull fittings and any hardware to prevent water intrusion and delamination
The ballast is external lead attached along the length of the keel. The keel design is considered a modified fin which is cut away in front of the rudder
During the 2021 refit, the bottom paint was completely removed by vapour blasting, the entire hull sanded, and new epoxy barrier coat applied (2 coats of Petit Protect 4700 Epoxy).
Wide, unobstructed side decks, with shrouds connected to chainplates on the outside of the hull and long handrails on the cabin top allow for safe movement on deck
Stout nickel-plated cast bronze deck cleats and chocks, custom-made for Gozzard Yachts, provide secure attachment points for mooring lines
Gozzard’s signature polished bronze dolphins accent the oiled teak toerails.
